2 weeks on 1 week off is a huge toll on the body but as this company is only young the essence is product product product and did I say product. The 8 days on 6 days off roster gives a worker a better life balance isn't as hard on the body as the 2 week roster. But for now I have said use me as you please as I am multi skilled and I do miss the mine site life so that is what job me the job.

I was getting fed up with that last job and thats why I applied for this minesite job in the first place so with 2 weeks wages in leau and all my holiday pay will mean a good xmas and fresh start to the new year.

Cheers Bryan

That’s brilliant mate.

Glad you not only got a job but one that you are going to enjoy. Can you imagine what it must be like to be in sales. Having to put up with people who think they know more than you and constantly telling you that you sold them the wrong gear.

That reminds me. Must get in touch with Stig :laughing-rolling:

Maybe I should not get online when I am enjoying the fruits of my labour lol

Mate back in 06 I started in sales company repairing gearbox's out the back where one couldn't swing 2 cats around :laughing-rolling: This engineer came in and said we have a problem with these gearbox's sp I said bring a pair down next week and we will look at them. I saw the problem straight away so I asked this engineer did he see it. He said don't muck around and tell me so I did. We went into the office to find it was going to take 8 weeks to get the required parts when I said I can machine up these parts at home and rebuild the gearbox's tomorrow. Which I did, a week later I got told 24 of them are coming down then a heap of other gearbox's turned up so I duly stripped them and suggested to my boss I take photo's to show the damage and worn parts so we can determine a quote.

Before i knew I had secured a BHP contract with gearbox's and 2 companies later got shafted and got told I would lose my ute and not get a pay rise for 5 years. So I told them to shove it and quit. 2 years later the service division closed down and 3 years later the sales division closed down. I left 16 gearbox's in parts and no-one could work out how to rebuild them so the compant had to buy new gearbox's.

My quote is when I working the slave wage listen to the slave but refuse to listen and lose that golden egg you thought you had.

Pure and simple put your all into the slave wage and find no matter what you do it will be wrong.

Well about 6 weeks ago rang a labourhire mob that I worked for a few years ago, rang on the Friday got a call on the Sunday and went for an interview on the Monday and started work on the Tuesday :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Turned out it was a motor body building company and a family business where the first meeting was like eh just get to know you :handgestures-thumbupleft: Now the foreman was a guy who has build truck bodies for over 30 years but every job I did where the foreman said do it this way and the owner came out and said NO do it this way. So i asked him instead of walking past with a dirty look try and look and if we aint doing it your way advise me and I'll do it the right way. The reply was thanks for the feedback and as always speakout if things can be done better.

3 weeks went buy and busy as then it slowed down and on the Monday a labourhire guy I was working with said he is finished with this bullshit and it was great working with you. That when I started noticing this boss glaring at me while i was doing my work, so i said good morning mate where he replied yes it is morning but not good then walked off.

The next week I thought time to ring my contact and get another job as this boss is a total wanker and at the end of work on the Tuesday I got called in saying I was too slow where the foreman said well for new guy learning this trade Bryan is pretty quick. The boss said well as labourhire is costing a fortune you have to go where i said mate well thanks for the work and it isn't hard to be nice so try it sometimes where the foreman had a good chuckle :laughing-rolling:

The next day I rang the labourhire mob where i was told they are already looking for more work for me and i got offered 2 days labouring which I turned down as the wages were below my threshold.

Now here I was thinking SWMBO would hit the roof and man was I surprised :scared-eek: where she said Bryan just get creative :teasing-tease: and I want that combustion fire in the shed in 2 weeks. We got this fire for free and the rear cast iron plate in the fire had mushroomed out and split so i cut it out and welded in a 250x10mm plate using TC16 rods on full amps to weld the steel to the cast iron. This gave the right pre heat so the weld puddle would bed in :handgestures-thumbupleft: I gave the plate a few good wacks with my 4lb hammer and not one weld broke so it was time to look at the door glass that was about to fall out. So went and bought some steel and found some M4 x 10mm screws to use and got the job done in 2 days. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

With the big market this easter I've made $1100 worth of flowers and dragon flies which should sell out on the first day :laughing-rolling: Now we need a top cone for the flue to keep the rain out so for a bit of practice I made up the temples and cut some coffee tin cans and made a 7" and 5" cones, now to go find some hollow logs the right diameter to make some bird houses that will bring $50 for each one.

Tomorrow i'll go get the parts I need to finish this jaw crusher and I already have 1/2 a dozen buyers lined up so it's on the cards to make a few more so this little venture could pay off and the price is 3oz of gold or the cash.

Getting all my idea's today off my 5 year old chilli vodka :obscene-drinkingchug: and maybe looking to work as a slave to the wage in a few weeks to pay the bills.

Cheers Bryan

Well guys the next chapter in my semi retirement has started, had close to a month off and doing jobs around the local area helping out families has kept a wage going :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Got a call on Thursday about a job and started it yesterday and it does look like this could be a long termer too as I asked the boily what he was on and to the shock of me :laughing-rolling: the company is one of the high paying mobs and could make a 100K a year easily :handgestures-thumbupleft:

It's a welder/fabricator job where frames are fabricated to put in molds where a fiberglass/concrete mix is sprayed to make the design. If one wonders how all those mosques are built with the spirals and old heritige buildings restored this method is used.

On my first day the foreman asked me to do a foreigner where he asked me to take 75mm of this axle shaft and weld it back on. Man it was a fun task to get it within a 1mm runout. This for an electric buggy to launch a boat. I did say if the weld does brake in service and it more than likely will I can fix it by machining it and pinning.

Finally got to see the owner of the labourhire company and he said Bryan you were one of my first starters and it's great to see you back with us and this job is the crown so make it happen for us as we are keen to get back in. Somehow I think I'm used as a guinea pig :laughing-rolling: but eh thats how the square ball rolls eh :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

Cheers Bryan :laughing-rolling:

Great to see you landed a good one mate.
Used as a guinea pig you say, my advice would be if they start walking towards you with a roll of hamster tape “run Forrest run”

Yea well it is looking good for a fulltime position as the boss is becoming a good mate, his company got bought out and now they totally rewinding the factory and putting new new machinery in.

Now here is a call out for Adelaide based members that are looking for work :handgestures-thumbupleft: Basically if you can work with a team and gel with your task the place i'm working is after good workers. If your a chippy or just a normal worker patching the GRC is a simple yet important job and anyone can use a trowel right. Also if your a boily come on and try me on the work front. :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

The company is based on old port road and with a huge project in the works there are jobs to be had, so if you have the right ticker jump onboard and yes the wages are one one of the best.

Well that last job finished up when we finished the Perth job and the company had no work planned for the next month or more so the boss came and said he did try to me fulltime but I hadn't been there long enough. But in 6-8 weeks times he said there would be enough work to get me back, so Isaid well mate if another job comes my way and I like it then I aint quitting just to be a part timer here at your companies whim :laughing-rolling:

Anyway that week off work was fun as I have already posted, 2 days ago I got a call from the laborhire mob about a job down at Victor Harbour working on the casuseway restoration. Went for a drive down this arvo and got the job where I do a week of dayshift to get my head around the project then onto arvo shift for the duration of the project. Got a text from my laborhire contact so texted back got the job and start Monday next thing the mobile rang and she was saying hangon you need to do a full medical and weld test before you start. About an hour later got a text where the guy I had a chat with had put his foot down saying I know Bryan hasn't done the PEM but I want him to start Monday as I told him so he can have a full week to learn the ropes then be my main man on arvo shift.

Eh I don't care when I start as this is going to be a good job where if we are rained out still get paid, finish the job early go home early still get paid etc and @$48 an hour + penalties with the job lasting atleast until the end of the year.

Yesterday had to go and do the pre employment medical and did everything asked and I thought well now thats out of the way I can finally start on this job so called into the labourhire mob and got the gear I needed then about an hour after I got home I got a call saying there was red flag on the PEM :angry-banghead: I asked WTF I did everything asked of me and was told by the accessor good luck on my new job. The guy doing it had to have a second person present which did make think this guy was junior who needed guidance so how in fuck was this idiot qualified to put a red flag up on a guy where he had stated I did well.

I've been told to get a second opinion so i have asked for all the documentation to hand to the medical officer but sofar nothing :angry-banghead: :angry-banghead: :angry-banghead: Chatting this morning they said the job is still mine but it does look like a few more hurdles to jump and I guess when trying to get a job paid for by the govt one does have to deal with mindless assholes who insist going by the book they have never read :laughing-rolling:

So this arvo as nothing is going to happen time to try out that second lager I made and polish off that bottle of pot stilled AG

Well where one door closed due to a dickhead who didn't know the rules of work another door opened and today I got a job at a earth moving mob :handgestures-thumbupleft: just finished all the inductions and start work on Monday :handgestures-thumbupleft:

First job is gunna be fun doggin in some 6mm bisalloy plate lining half a doz side tippers and using flux core to weld em in. So 10 hour days 6 days a week and I did say mate I'll do every second Saturday as a man does need to have some fun at home :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

Went and saw my local quack this morning and told him about that PEM so we going to redo everything by using specialists to debunk that report so it can be refuted and the guy who wrote it should be quaking in his boots pretty soon as they are very strict rules about saying a person can't work. All of this will be done on medicare so no cost to me and it will give me a chance to see just how my body is going. I did say to the quack I only come to see you guys if I really have too and he asked well did you have a full health check when you were 50. I said what for mate life begins at 40 :laughing-rolling: where he replied right since you have brought it up YOU are the full treatment :scared-eek: :scared-eek: :scared-eek:

Now whats the bet once I get this debunked that Victor job will spring up :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

Well the Laborhire mob said they had a backup for me and said the company is very keen to talk to me then next thing I knew they had arranged an interview the next day. So last Friday I went down the hill for a chat got told the job and I said no worries mate it's been 20 years since I worked on side tippers and I wouldn't mind getting back into it. So he said OK mate start Monday 7am to 5pm everyday thru the week and 6am to 12pm Saturday if you want to work it. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

So the first job is lining the side tippers with 6mm hardox plate and I did the first one in 2 and half days, they did send one out to be done and I was told it taking them 4 days with 2 welders. I said sheesh if I took 8 days to do that job I would be out the door pronto :laughing-rolling: where I got told you aint going anywhere mate and that first one you did has the top office over the moon :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Anyway on Tuesday got the 'letter of offer' and for the wages it read

single time $38
time and a half $40
double time $42

So at lunch time I rang my contact and said this is Pauline Hanson now bloody please explain :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft: saying also I hope this is a typo. :teasing-neener: I got told what did I do and I will get on and fix it now where I replied Becky take that blonde wig off and stop doing the typos as it is doing my head in :laughing-rolling:

About half an hour later got another "letter of offer" where for the first time working for this laborhire mob they are paying the full penalty rates, so now it reads

Single time $38
time and a half $58
Double time $76

Now the working week is based on a 38 hour week and everything else is overtime :handgestures-thumbupleft: so in for a nice pay packet this week :handgestures-thumbupleft: I did get talking with my boss about fulltime and asked what they paid where I got told a tier 1 is $34 an hour where I said mate I'm a dual tradie and he replied yea mate I'm going to try and get you north of $40 an hour :handgestures-thumbupleft:

So as far as that Victor job goes they can stick it as the fumes of that flux core inconel will cause cancer if one takes one breath of it. I did ask well as this job has so much risk would they pay for a positive flow welding helmut where I got told no you can buy your own. @ 2.5K for a good one no thanks.

This job is only a 45 minute drive from home and I am settling in well so hopefully this job is a keeper :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Well such is the life of a casual worker :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

Last Friday finished a job at a local earth moving company where 10 hour shifts were the norm for 6 days a week and today went for a welding test for a mob down the hill. So I rang the laborhire company and told them and asked what the rate would be saying the $38 there were paying me was for a single trade and in this job I will be working as a dual tradie. So I was asked what rate would I want so I simply said $45 and hour with full penalties and it didn't take long to them to say your wish is granted :handgestures-thumbupleft:

So for the next three months I will see if this place is where I want spend until i retire or go back to where I was. With covid playing havoc with shutdowns it could be next year before they ramp up again as i was told by another laborhire mob where they said Bryan if you are coming back then a supervisors role is waiting for you on the shutdowns as all the guy's keep asking where I am.

Cheers Bryan

G'Day Guy's,

On Thursday the boss came out and said mate we have made the decision so I will ask you now do you want a fulltime job as it there for you but be aware the wait period for the labour hire still has to take place. We have a heap of work coming up where you will never have to work on a truck.

Now as this company make Vac trucks they want to setup a division for other projects and they want me to lead that, he did say we looked over that first project you did with the slab rotator and Bryan you made that in 60% of the time we allocated and the customer has said it is a top job :handgestures-thumbupleft:

My next project is a bin lifter for lifting plastic waste and yes they have made one before where it took 6 months, my task is to make one twice the size and it will be finished in a month.

On Monday I was told you can have Dave 4 to help you and man by Tuesday I told the boss to separate us, I had no idea this would go all up the chain but it did and by Friday Dave has come around as he admitted this is all new to me and I didn't know your skill set.

So the place is called Blade Engineering "The cutting Edge of Engineering" great name and a place I can spend the rest of my career full knowing it's a 130 k round trip from home to work and back. but thats the way when you live out of the grid and out of the smog.

Cheers Bryan

P.S. just google the Company Name and have a look at the stuff we make
