First run - a good day after a false start

Postby jamjar » Sun Oct 16, 2011 6:04 pm

Interesting day today – set fire to the top of my still, burned out and melted the hose , fittings, thermometer , insulation. Well at least it got rid of those foreshots etc
But within an hour had replaced it all and was up and running.
Been going for 8 hours solid and the temp has not moved from 77.7. Getting 1.2l per hour and can only just see under the 100% line so in real cool world must be at least 95%.

I might have to invest in a TV for the shed, reckon I have for more hours in there, got to read a whole book today

Well done! The first run on the board is a very satisfying one, no? Sometimes having things go wrong is the best way to learn (though one fire is probably enough, :laughing-rolling: )

You were running a stripped TPW, right? If its for vodka, let it air 24hrs and enjoy the fruits of your labours tomorrow :D

Must have had too much heat,(yet i only had one ring burning) heard a gushsing noise and a heap of fluid sprayed out the top and pour down the ouside and went up. Turned off the gas to drop the pressure etc, but the garden hoses were alight, dripping fire balls over the ground, that was the worrying bit as they melted and fell off.

Ooops your column flooded, It's happened to me too not that long ago

Once you see it coming up to temp listen for the gurgling noise and back the heat right off, it's surprising how little you need to run a 2" reflux still ;)

Cheers
