I ended up sticking 40g in as suggested above in a starter of warm wash - took off no worries and I have a submersible aquarium heater in it to keep it ticking over at 27C.

Geeps you really don't need to go to extremes. Splashing the water into the big barrel or squirting it in under pressure with a hose will give it the oxygen it needs to get going. Well that's how Ive done washes that size and smaller and Ive not had one fail yet.
