7evan, the threaded spears I have removed have a tang out the side to retain the spear when screwed out so it doesn't become a projectile if the keg still retains pressure when the end of the thread is reached. What I have done after screwing the spear out till it is lose is get a couple of heavy screwdrivers, or pry bars, even the nail removing claw of a hammer, under the spear and lever it up. Here is an image of the bent tang after using force to remove the spear...
