The base of the webber is there, only an extra hole cut in it for the gas burner to go through. The webber lid fits perfectly on the top of the cut-off drum.

I make biltong with mine, I have the gas burner on real low and maintain 70-80 deg C for hours after ive cold smoked it while doing the cheese.
