Posted about a barrel I had bought that leaked bad and had not been charred, got some great advice and encouragement from some members here about how to go about charring and fixing said barrel. Especially from Sam.
Took the hoops off from one side and took the end board right out of it (after marking alignment of course) gave it a light charring on the inside and put it back together.
I got the hoops back on no worries using an old chisel with a notch cut out of the tip and a hammer and some little skirting nails to stop the hoops from rocking back and forth as I tapped them on. Managed to get them a fair bit tighter than they were before.
I now have it filled with water swelling the wood to eliminate the few tiny leaks that Are still present. Can't wait to fill it with some tasty rummmmm!!!!
Thank u Sam and others for advice and encouragement, without which I probably wouldn't have attempted this seemingly difficult task. Now I've done it once I won't hesitate in the future :D
