Backfill and just pour your spent grain in there when ever you have it. It'll smell when the lids off but it'll be fine any other time. Should rot away nicely too.

Have seen on television wet grain taken out of mash tun and put in open IBC and feed to sheep but you may be right it could have been mixed with grain or molasses.
