I'm adding a length of 1/2 inch copper pipe into my T500 to replace the plastic product out tube. Do I need to treat it before anything runs through it?

Just soak it in a citric acid bath over night and after every half dozen runs or so

Is this with Turbo yeast or with the TPW? still learning how to get rid of my stock of turbo yeast!

In the end it all worked out really well :handgestures-thumbupleft: i collected 9 200ml cuts after 150ml foreshots, i really had a lot of trouble deciding which cuts to keep, 2-9 all smelt and tasted the same to me  so in the end just kept 3-6,made some irish cream with the still spirits stuff that came with the still, which worked out really well, the missus loves it, and some bourbon with essence which tastes like bacardi but is drinkable mixed and put a litre on oak chips.
I found with the copper T500 with the copper and stainless saddles and no reticulation, i had to turn the water down about 25%, otherwise it would not have heated up past 20 Degrees and with the water flat out, the still was leaking out the top. Apart from that i followed this guide to the T and im really happy with the end result :text-thankyoublue: Doubleuj :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I have read and re-read these mods and something confuses me. I pour in the copper saddles and then add only 5 ss scrubbers? This suggests the scrubbers and saddles are at the base and not at the top. Is this right or should I add ss wool to hold everything at the top?

I’m thinking you might be confused as to scrubbers vs, saddles. When i say scrubbers I mean, scourers/ ss wool.
Have you got the version with copper and stainless steel saddles?

Yes, copper and saddles. I pulled everything out of it after reading your post to work out what I had. The lower 2/3s was all ss saddles. When I got to to the top it was a combination of copper and ss saddles that came out. I figured the copper bits are meant to be at the top. Hence my confusion.

Yeap, the copper should be at the top, I’d say when it was packed either they weren’t too careful in what they put in or some of the ss saddles got caught up when you emptied it out.
Just drop the copper saddles in first, holding the tower upside down, then the ss saddles. You only want enough in there that the copper stays up the top when up the right way.

When I repacked it I was carful not to let it be overly tight. But I did fill the whole tube thinking the copper had to be at the top. I was given advice that putting SS saddles in the boiler helped reduce heating time and it has. A bag if SS saddles reduced heat up time but 25%.
I'm happy with the quality I am getting but a little disappointed in yield. 1.5L from a 25L litre mash. Am I expecting to much or am I doing something wrong?
Oh, and even following your instructions as best as I understand them, my cooks only take 3 hours. I stop the cook as soon as the vanilla flavour isn't there. I want top shelf yield and happy to get what I think it the best drop without pushing it for quantity. For me, the vanilla flavour is where the best cut is. Am I wrong thinking that? I've read so much here about cuts and blending. I'm in this for the best in flavour. I'd rather pour tails down the toilet where they belong. Perhaps I am foolish in thinking that. I have much to learn.
I should add that I drink my spirits neat. No mix no ice. I've never understood mixing quality spirits with shit like coke and think it's a good drink. If you love spirits, why would you mess it up with crap like coke? Even ice makes a mess of it.
Just saying.

I think you’re over complicating things, copper saddles up the top( when it’s up the right way).
Boiler enhancers(aka anything inert with good surface area, like a bag of ss saddles) may help in heat up speed but the jury is still out, none the less, a discussion for another thread.
I’ve never heard of selecting cuts on a vanilla taste? Maybe others have, to me the vanillas come out after oaking.
Tails (and heads) can be kept and added to the next run and increase your yeild.

So out of a 25l wash how much do you usually keep?

It is still a bit confusing on what is a typical amount of good neutral spirits after cuts to get with the standard tpw T500
