Turning apple cider into apple brandy how to?

Postby davesims » Mon Nov 13, 2017 5:55 pm

Hi all

I have a failed apple cider that i am wanting to run it through the pot still, this is where i need a little advice. I have only ever used my pot column to strip and never done a spirit run before.

With the T500 i collect the first 200 ml and then run it slow into multiple 300 ml jars , air it for 24 hours then do the cuts

What differently do i have to do with the pot still?

Also 3 x 750 apple cider i freeze distillate to get Apple Jack it and it really just tastes like strong apple cider yeasty similar to beer, has anyone done this at all?

You will need a power controller to slow output on the pot still. Besides that double your fores cut. Then cuts and blend as normal :handgestures-thumbupleft: let us know how it turns out. Always wanted to do some brandy :D

The T500 boiler has 2 elements on the 1 switch.
A quick mod is to wire in a second switch so you can turn off 1 element

:text-+1: on the electrician. They'll take one look at it and know what to do straight away.

There is a thread here somewhere that shows the guts of the T500 boiler that some clown posted a while ago that may be of assistance when consulting an electrician.

9l cider is not gunna give you anything worthwhile. My advice strip it then put it on a shelf make more cider like 30l at least strip that then mix with your first low wines and do a slow and steady spirit run. 9l you would prob only get 600-700mls spirit. If that..
