Digging up old threads again... Regarding soldering and crimping connections... Please, please, please do not ever ever ever do this. Typically what happens when the connection gets hot is for the solder to melt resulting in less conductive surface area resulting in increased heat resulting in bang burn smoke and fizzle. And once the smoke gets out... you can't put it back in :)

Had the same issue my element is 2200 only supposed to pull 9.5 amps but was drawing 11.2 so I got around it by using a controller and turning it down until 20 amp sockets were installed also use the minimum amount of lead possible dunno y that’s what the sparky told me

Longer lead gives a higher resistance, which means it gets hotter and less power going to the boiler.

Currently having a makeover: 2" x 4 plate solid state bubbler (1" bubble caps, no sight glasses...maybe not for much longer!) on a bain-marie boiler.
