What Should We Stock?

Postby Andrew » Mon Jul 30, 2018 8:44 pm

I would like to know what you lot would expect us to have in stock?
As I mentioned in another thread, we are looking at placing our first order sooner than expected and I was wondering what you guys would like to see on our shelves?
Bare in mind we can’t hold 500 neutralisers :laughing-rolling:
Cheers

Any chance you have the plans for Macs Carter head? I don't need the still, but I'd love a price on a Carter head. Or at least 100x100x50 Tees. No one seems to carry them anymore.

Hi Andrew,

It would depend on your target audience. A home hobby distiller isn't going to need a 500 litre boiler, but I am sure commercial ventures might be interested.

Personally Various Dominoes, Activated Carbon, Gin additives and distilling consumables.

I hope this helps

Lots of the little bits that people use to build bubblers. I am building a glassed so will be looking for 4-2 reducers and triclamps etc. just sent Wazza a pm for some clamps

I would def stock turbos!!
But really I would stock distilling sundries.
Unfortunately once someone's got a setup its going to last forever except for possibly minor changes so you need to feed the demand for other sundry products like fermenters, yeasts, maybe grain and other stuff that are consumables to keep you ticking over between big ticket sales.
Possibly a few basic (legal) beer keg boilers setup to run and just plain as well.
A lot of rummies like molasses so a bulky of that may be an option.
I live a long way away now so cant visit the store for big items anyway but thinking you need to diversify a bit for slow sale days.
I'll just add sugar is probably not a good choice for sales as I've yet to meet anyone that can compete with coles or woolies and their bag sizes make it easy to measure out.
Cheers,
Warra

I realize that product development is most likely not high on the list this week, but you need a t500 killer - there are a few cheap boka's around, and I'm not sure It's a market that is worthwhile, but if you can work one out that isn't too dear, you may be able to pick up long-term customers on their first purchase instead of jaded t500 owners who are hesitant to shell out more cash.

Sight glasses will be needed,
Fermenters,
A metric butt-load of hydrometers and alchometers, those little buggers are always rolling off benches,
Yeasts,
Grains,
Hops,
MacBokas to compete with the t500,
T500 adaptors for people who learn better/ outgrow after initial purchase,
Elements and guards,
And such stuff.

Not sure you will sell many extra plates and bubble caps as its not like they wear out, probably something you keep a handful in stock and dust them most of the time.

Dont want to drown in stock, but also dont want to have to wait the same amount of time it takes for ebay gear to arrive.

Definitely clamps, seals and sightglass. The dominos Mac sold. Add ons, such as gin basket modules, carter head kits etc.

Good luck, I’ll be ordering clamps, seals & sightglass soon!

Reducers - many run 4" but have a 6" or bigger boiler connection - some 6" and maybe an 8" or 12" down to 4"

If you can work out some cheap larger demijohns - ive seen them way cheaper than brissy prices down south, but shipping is a killer - may be something for later by the 20 footer or something

My main suggestion is to check out the brew shops around you and see what they are missing or overcharging for, pick one or two high turn over items that you can use as a loss leader to get ppl in?

How much mailorder do you want to do? ( the more stuff you send the less you guys will pay for shipping) Various malts and yeasts might be worth looking into - esp the ones that arnt used for beer generally

Cough essences cough - nuff said

You guys are southside??
