Did you make any cuts i.e. separate the different fractions Fores, Heads, Hearts & Tails? Or did you collect all the product together?

After trying it last night it had a bit of a bad taste, how fast should it be coming out also could it be the was wasn't settled enough?

:text-+1: did you do cuts? Rum is pretty rough straight off a pot. It needs time with oak imo..

What is the taste or smell? It could be bad cuts or lack of copper as I believe the 5star pot stills are all stainless, they sell solutions if that's the issue.

Yeah did cuts in 300ml sections right down till about 30%

I will wait it out a bit longer and see if it gets better, only been sitting since 28th December, hopefully that's all it is.

Best way to run a pot on a spirit run is to back off the power off till you get a broken stream then slowly increase your power until you just get an unbroken stream. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Twojaythomo, my 1st all grain whiskey came off the still horrible. Gave it 7 months on American Oak.........was still horrible. Eventually re ran it and it was decent. I have no doubt you have already learned a lot. Key to this hobby is practice and patience :-B
P.S. not suggesting your rum is no good, give it some time and see how it goes :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Pretty sure it was my bad transfer from fermenter to the boiler, got a little stired up.

Thanks for the advice Stig that's awesome will do that on my next spirit run.

I'm currently re-running it as it had a real dirty taste like tales.

Question about running a third time would one do cuts still or has all the nasties gone.

When I re ran I combined with the fients and made cuts again. I had already thrown fores so wasnt to worried abou those. I did notice that when I re ran the cuts were easier to make, that is the nasties seemed to be more defined.

I'm just going to stop collecting at 50-60% and call it a write off.

Thanks for all the help hopefully I can move on to a bubbler soon once I got this pot worked out.

Taste testing now and it's so much better, hopefully Stig's advice can make it better next time.

We always do cuts mate, but with lots of runs under the belt of the same wash i can do them on the fly but I usually still do small cuts at late heads/early tails :handgestures-thumbupleft:
But never by parrot %
