Not bad at all
The world price for raw sugar is in the 40 cents to 45 cents a kilo range so someone is making a big profit on sugar and its not the farmer.
Its rarely the farmer. I ofter look at the price of malted grain we're buying... it's around 3-4 bucks per kg depending what your after. So that makes it $3000- $4000 per ton... a couple years back we had a really good year yield wise with our crops and they stole it off us for as low as $100/ ton. We were flat out getting $140/ton at best. To me there is a big gap there..
This is why i endevour to try and malt my own... at least i know it's quality grain.
Have you looked at growing sweet sorghum they grow it in the United States .They did some trials in Queensland to see if could be grown for bio fuel but think they planted in the wrong area and had poor weather and may have been set up to fail to protect the sugar industry.
Muddy Pond Sorghum Mill is on the face book and if look at you tube they show how its grown and processed and can be grown in areas that have snow in winter.
