The Dark Side

Postby The Stig » Fri Jul 26, 2019 1:11 pm

So I have dumped iOS and moved over to the dark side and bought an Android phone.
I'm in for a learning curve over the next few days :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I had an apple product once ans iphone 4 to be precise and I found throwing on the concrete didn't kill it but my trusty 4lb hammer did :laughing-rolling: I do suppose one had to try it once only to find what a waste of time it was. Constantly updating and draining the battery at night so the alarm wouldn't go off which made me late for work all the time. Getting an android phone fixed the problem and disabling google was the first step to make the phone better.

Yeah you should be able to just swipe it open.
Lock screen settings.
If you have outlook however I think you must at least have a pin.

I'm quite fine of the first Gerri t scanner on my phone, you just need to set it up correctly.

I did a heap of research for my current phone, moto g5 plus. The fingerprint scanner doubles as a home button and can also do navigation functions, swipe left on the sensor pad functions as the back button and swipe right functions as the multitasking button. Not sure if other androids have anything similar but I love it. Also some Android brands have lots of added crap that just gets in the way. Not all androids are equal. What phone did you get Stig?

Thanks guys.
I’ll ignore you Brian :teasing-neener:
I ended up getting an OPPO now z
Everybody was saying it’s an android that is easy for the IOS ex users :laughing-rolling:
And now I find out that the bloody thing won’t show me notifications :angry-banghead:
This is going to be painful.
I did get the swipe up to open working :handgestures-thumbupleft:
Oh and went with blue mail since outlook wouldn’t allow me to add more than 1 email account :angry-banghead:

My first and last iOs was iPhone 3, I found it entirely underwhelming and restrictive and as a result accidentally closed the car door on it! Android on the other hand allows you to actually do things the way you want to, and not the way Apple force you to.

What convinced you to change over?

Try AquaMail Pro, once you set it up how you want it will sync all messages from all accounts on your servers (desktop PC), remove from servers etc. Have you got an apple desktop?
Play around with your lock screen settings, see what things do and find something you like. If all else fails, there are also apps that will change themes and make it look like iOs..! I've also been using eset mobile security (PC version for many years), does a great job.
Cheers,

Chocko

Can you press and hold it, then drag it off to a new tab where you don't look at it.
Never used a OPPO though.

There should also be a bin you can drag it to.

Google 'changing from ios to android' and have a good read.

I implore you to persist as I'm sure you'll be very happy in no time!

I've got over my little hissy fit and the fact that I've spent just over $100 on apps that promise to move everything from iOS to android only to fail.
So I reset and started again.
I've fucked off the clock and got something better.
I'm starting fresh with messages etc.
Somebody asked why the change?
A number of reasons really, sick of carrying 2 phones so wanted dual Sim, sick of spending $3000 every 2 years (if I get a phone so does the Mrs) and we'll I just wanted a change.
So, I'll persist for a while and see how we go but I won't sell the apples just yet :laughing-rolling:
Edit to add: I also found a "home button" kind of thing :-B

WOW Stig simply WOW :teasing-neener:

For being the site nerd this one with mobile sure makes you numpty at best :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

A couple of weeks ago I had to buy a new phone as the battery died on my 5 year old Android finally died and I was late to work. Went into the Telsux shop and bought outright a Samsung Galaxy A20 which just worked straight out of the box, well after the telsux guy set everything up. $39 a month for unlimited call and 30 gig of data.

One thing it didn't do was transfer my contacts but after investigation it was the old phone that didn't save the contacts to the SDcard. So I thought as I had so many old contacts I didn't bother transferring them and if someone called from my old contacts I just saved the number.]

This samsung phone has all the unwanted gadgets so I just turned them off and as far as apps go I found everything I wanted for free. I mean why pay for something when the free version does the same thing. Now with the so called adds that come with the free apps simply go into stting and turn of the notifications for those apps and one doesnt have to worry about it.

Cheers Bryan
