22litre post mix keg as boiler?

Postby ChasingJack » Mon Aug 12, 2019 7:27 am

Howdy all

A post mix keg has come up in my area but I'm not convinced they are suitable for boiler conversion? Has anyone had a crack at it? It's the first keg even vaguely in my price range so will jump if those in the know give me the nod.

edit: "22 litre post mix keg,old school stainless in use up until a week ago"

Fanks all

I'm going to give it a 'no' for now. I am thinking that the tall/narrow shape will be inefficient to heat - as said in other places around here this keg would be a cool low wines store but I cant generate that sort of volume at the moment so I will pass.

If anyone else is interested around the NSW Central Coast go a look at ...

mmm...hope that's how links work?

Good call Stig. While in my infancy in the craft its the best white dog I can muster that excites me to start out. If I can just untie my laces and get an AG out even better but all things in time :-)

Even a CFW that's been ages on oak for 6 months is better than nothing.
I don't have the time for all grain and have perfected (in my mind) a great bourbon that's aged for over 12 months now on oak in the corny kegs from Mr Kellogg's finest with extras

LOL! And I just ran my first, first generation UJSSM but cheated slightly by adding the feints from a weetbix batch from a while back and 'accidentally' putting it all in an old Cougar bottle with maybe a shot left in the bottom. Damn fine sipping for something straight out of the gate!

Until I am a bit more situated I'm going to stick to my little 7 litre stock pot set up and use my stomach for storage and ageing :-)
