I'm pretty sure that imbibers will be living "on their backs."

I just had to reference Bowie....

i'm very happy... no, ecstatic is the word... to :text-welcomeconfetti: the latest member of the family and introduce 'Barry the boozie Boka' to his new roommate... 'Frankie 4 plates'.

Now boys, I want you to play nicely with each other... if only i'd been to the hardware store already Frankie would be getting his first bath :angry-soapbox:

In fairness to Andrew and all at 5-star, I decided to cancel the current order (which was being part-paid), and just use Zip-pay for The Gin Genie. So 5-Star gets paid, I gets the Boka, and I can take even more time paying it off, but without inconveniencing anyone.

Order is done. Once Zip give the green light, I can wait impatiently for the still to arrive. I'm having it sent to work, so that I can get any need brass attachments, right there!

Exciting. Plus, the brews are starting to back up! I have 60 litres of sugar washes, just waiting to be released.

Cheers, Andrew.

As the posties are in the same complex, I'm hopeful. But then I have seen them in action, so insurance may be mandatory! x_x

Well, now to wait...

They where talking about these time payment like Zip-pay seems like there are many more coming on to the market and that they charge 6% from the seller and that not making payment and getting hit with a penalty is not there main income.

Yeah, I use ZIP and Afterpay as a vendor as well.

A lot of their income is from buyers who miss payments. From the vendor's perspective though, it is yet another avenue to get paid. Unfortunately, in this current climate, that 6% (plus GST) is a hard thing to pass on, like credit card fees, paypal fees etc.

Anyway, all of this is moot. It is offered by 5-star, it was taken up by this guy, and soon I will have some shiny to place atop the keg monster!

One question, for those who have one of these... Can I loop a temperature probe down through the top of this thing? I have a controller that will adjust the power to the heater element, according to a set temperature. It has one of those simple loopback probes, and I'm hoping it will be a simple thing to drop in from the top.

I don’t think there will be anywhere for a temperature probe and you should not be controlling the boiler by temperature anyway, you want a constant rolling boil for best results. A power control for spirit runs to reduce the ferocity of the boil would be a better way to go.

Hi Prof,

I do have that already. I have a rotary controller that I can set from 100% (2400W) down to zero. Plus I use a power meter, to see what the exact wattage is being used at any time.

Then you're good to go, forget about the temp probe.

Not long now and you will have an exciting new toy to play with. Further back in this thread I posted a description of my first spirit run which you might find helpful. I have the pot still to do the stripping runs and the boka for the spirit run. I have 3 x 25 litre fermenters. Pot still takes around 2.5 hours for each fermenter. Then I have enough for a spirit run - currently I am adding tails to the run but I might change that later. Today's spirit run (Teddy's FFV) was low and slow and took almost 7 hours. I have 22 jars sitting on the bench airing to make my cuts later. I usually end up with the equivalent of 10 x 700 ml bottles of vodka (plus heads and tails). Heads are being saved for an experimental run when I have enough.
I keep notes as I go so I can refer back if I need to.

Happy to share my (limited) knowledge if you need it.

Cheers
Carol

That's great, thanks Carol.

I have a pot still being built. The Drunk Pelican. Hopefully, the engineer will be done soon.

EDIT: Where did you get your jars from?

They are vegemite jars that I have collected over lots of years!!! I use kmart measuring jugs on the still to get approx 300mls and then transfer them to the vegemite jars. If you cannot find enough jars maybe stubbies would do - or glasses from the op shop.
