No alcometer for Distilling weekend...

Postby joel0395 » Sun Jan 19, 2020 5:22 pm

Hi y'all, so I managed to break my only alcometer... I've got 150L of tpw, a cleaned and prepped still. All ready for my long weekend plans. My local hbs doesn't sell them, and I am unable to get one online until payday later this week ( i know they are only $30, just a bit strapped at the moment) so is there a way to strip down to 20% without using a alcometer?Cheers

I dont own a parrot, I just taste off the still - taste, not drink, when i no longer get a tingle, im done.
Sometimes ill test a jar mid run for the fun of it, but i usually monitor output speed more closely
If you have very accurate scales and can do math, alc is 12/13ths the weight of water
I bought a pack of 10 alcs for about $12 from china, broke 2 or 3 so far cause they cheap n thin, but i dont regret it at all

Thankyou, exactly the kind of advice I needed, I'm not running a parrot either so I just assumed i would fill up a test tube every few jars to check, i can manage the taste test though

Unfortunately not, it has been about 4 years since my poor still has tasted alcohol and power, only just getting back into it

Hi RC Al
Where did you find the bulk quantity of alcometers? I think it would be handy to have a few spares in the cupboard just in case.

Thanks
