Pure distilling reflux problems

Postby susie » Sun Mar 08, 2020 9:45 am

We have had this still for years. suddenly it is boiling in the tube, sounds like a train, and vapour is running out the top.

Things we have tried:
Tested the wash it is at lower than 1000
Repacked the column
checked the hole with a needle

Sounds like puking.
Try some butter, table spoon worth in the boiler

Reduce power supply, I had the same problem. If you don’t have a voltage controller you can use a 20 metre extension lead to lose a bit of power.
Another thing that works is running a desk fan directly on the boiler.

Have a look at your condenser. Make sure it’s not blocked.
