You don’t need a bubbler. But be honest with yourself. You have a calling.

Great build Lesgold :handgestures-thumbupleft:
I've been away for a bit but it looks like others have taken up the call for a bubbler :teasing-nutkick:
Good thing you avoided 1/4" on your parrot, I used it on my parrot beak and it causes it to sputter (my parrot isn't connected to my still so it's not a venting issue).
You've inspired me, it looks like you've used the same 1/4" ball valve that I have sitting spare and maybe I'll use it as a drain on my parrot. I don't often use my parrot as I'm pretty sure they cause extra smearing without a drain. But a drain would be nice

Currently having a makeover: 2" x 4 plate solid state bubbler (1" bubble caps, no sight glasses...maybe not for much longer!) on a bain-marie boiler.

So Lesgold, you’ve been a bit quiet. What’s happening with that haul of copper pipe? :D

Stripped the paint off the copper and that’s all I’ve done. Sitting here looking at 2 fermenters of UJ that need to be run so it’s a matter of priorities. Booze comes first. With the restrictions being eased, it’s a bit easier to get out and do other stuff so the bubblers not on the priority list. Can still make all I need with the gear that I’ve got. I can already see that the CCVM is only going to be fired up when neutral for gin is required. Most of the time the pot will be used for bourbon and rum. One thing that I have noticed is the modular pot is also not being used. I grab the inverted V pot still, attach one tri clamp and clip on 2x hoses and away I go. It has turned out to be an absolute cracker. The inbuilt shotty knocks the vapour down with ease and it’s so compact. Anyway, another good day has arrived. Time to go bush and prospect for some gold before someone else grabs it. The bubbler will now end up as a slow wet weather build.

Victoria? Isn’t that a foreign place to the south of gods country? I’ve heard that the people down there are nice but for the life of me, I can’t understand their accent... :teasing-neener: :teasing-neener: :teasing-neener: :teasing-neener:

It never rains in NSW. Especially when you want it to.

Lesgold, how did you connect the hose fitting to the 1/4in end of the coil? Did you shim with some copper and hard solder or something?
I've successfully wound my coil but scratching my head as to how to step from 1/4 up to the ID of the hose connector
Any help appreciated!

Hi WhiskeySour,

I used a brass hose joiner that I cut in half to make the two snap fittings. From memory, I think the ID of the fitting was 10mm. Had a short length of 10mm brass rod that I drilled out to 1/4” to act as a shim And then soft soldered everything together. You could also wind copper wire around the 1/4” until you get close to the correct diameter and then solder the lot together.

Yes I had suspected a shim, yours looked very neat in the pic!!

I've been messing about with wrapping some flattened copper around the 1/4, but I think the gaps are too big to seal with solder. Will give it a crack and hope for the best. Why is it always the little things that provide the most headaches

Instead of the sleeve, you can pop the fitting past the end of the tube and then expand the tube with a drift, punch or tube expander to get a tight fit for soldering

Copper is pretty easy to move around if its annealed

Good idea RC
I was actually looking for my punch set last night to try this, a screw driver just wasn't the right tool for the job
