Dan's Boiler build

Postby dans.brew » Sun Sep 13, 2020 4:33 pm

Well the time has come to build a bit bigger boiler. Managed to get myself a 18gal keg and i plan to weld a 1/3- 1/2 of a 50ltr keg on the bottom for a sump and drain and hopefully get the boiler close to 100lt capacity.

Made a start today on cutting up the 50ltr to sit on the 18gal. Tedious job getting the shape right to follow the ribs and curve as well. Got there in the end, was just a matter of putting it on and off the 18gal a shite load of times and slowly grinding it to shape.

Got the 2 kegs ready to weld together, once i get some fittings I'll whack a few more holes in it and it'll be right to weld.

The fittings will be 2 x 4" on top (one will be a bit taller), 2 x 2" in the sump and a 1" drain in the bottom.
The element is going to be a 6000w
The extra 2" in the sump is just a spare for one-day. Thought while im going it wont hurt.

Well mate the short answer is, not far enough. :angry-banghead:
I'm looking at it everytime i go in the workshop, but just can't get to it. Had a couple other big projects this year.
I do at least have all the parts for it now, i think!
