Black insulated keg as boiler

Postby RC Al » Fri Oct 09, 2020 7:58 pm

Got onto a couple of these, mine are a bit rattier, but look the same

Has anyone had issues with the black stuff melting from a couple of 2200w elments mounted in one?

I doubt its an issue, but you know...

What is the black stuff? Rubber?
If it is rubber I reckon it would be ok, the wash will never get above 100 deg and it’s only on the outside

Not an open flame so probably be OK but may start to decompose over time from heat and start to break up.
Could possibly use more insulation to save electricity.

Probably need to get blasted off with some type of sand blasting media to get a workable area to weld.

Thanks guys

I was hoping for a "used one for years" reply

Was only planning on 2x bolt in elements, so no welding

This is for a good friend who is a newby, so for the sake of an unknown risk, ill pass on possibly burning his house down and save it for storage or later experiments in my outdoor use area for now :handgestures-thumbupleft:
