Hello from the Sunshine State

Postby JulianFNQ » Sat Oct 24, 2020 8:04 pm

The other week I finally decided to get into distilling. Well I have a cocktail bar to run and my access to duty free has dried up.
Had absolutely no idea how involved it was - until I jumped on this forum. Seems it is as big as you want to make it. Now I want to make it big. Have a background in chemistry and process systems. This is right up my alley!
The local brew shop almost had me sold on a T500, but being the investigative type, have “settled” on a 3” bubble plate which is yet to arrive. Yep, this is def going to be a hobby. Plan to start with basic white spirits, then rum, gin, and whisky.
The amount of information you guys put out there is amazing, hopefully over the years I will be able to contribute something meaningful.

Mate if you are planning on making alcohol and selling it over a bar without an ATO license to manufacture spirits and not paying excise you are going to end up in prison.

I seriously hope this isn't the case and you have looked into the legalities.

If you are intentionally trying to break the law in that way then this forum is not for you.

Seems I was being a bit unclear. The cocktail bar is in my house - very much for private use only, definitely NO SALES!

Sorry mate for the abrupt response, I read that completely wrong, I hate that text is very one dimensional.

Moving forward im sure a plated still is going to solve most of your problems :handgestures-thumbupleft:

And also welcome to the forum :D

I bet that was a long 5 weeks waiting for your baby to arrive.

Looks like it is a 30 kg bundle of joy and doesn’t it look wonderful

Enjoy the experiments Julian :)

Yeah it was a long wait BUT, it gave me time to peruse this forum and work out what I needed to do when it arrived. First run, after my cleaning runs, was a WBAB. It turned out well with the ABV sitting at 93 to 91 the whole run. Was pulling at about 1.2 L/hr. After all 4 glasses fogged up the ABV started to drop and get tailsey, so I stopped collecting.
This forum is pure GOLD.

Most definitely made the right choice going for that over the T500 from the brew shop! :handgestures-thumbupleft:
