20 litre or 60 litre fermenting

Postby Benji » Thu Mar 05, 2020 9:25 pm

Is there any difference in fermenting 20L compared to 60L? I ask because I buy a 25 kilo bag of dextrose ever fortnight and would prefer to be able to ferment the entire bag in 1 go, in 1 container.

As long as you have the fermenter space mate everything is scaleable, Just scale the original recipe up

To do a 25kg bag in 1 hit your going to need a 100L fermenter

I find my 20 L fermenter finishes a day or so earlier than my 60 L fermenter. Not sure why, I would have thought the bigger fermenter retained more heat and stayed warmer longer leading to a faster ferment.

equipment: Eve - 4" x 4 plate solid state bubbler (sieve plates), 330 mm packed section on a keg boiler with 2 x 2000 W elements.
Currently having a makeover: 2" x 4 plate solid state bubbler (1" bubble caps, no sight glasses...maybe not for much longer!) on a bain-marie boiler.

It is possible to increase a wash size when its fermenting can add extra water and sugar as long s there is space but do not try adding dry dextrose will froth up and try to over flow.
