Hi first of all thanks for adding me again I forgot my password on old membership

I have a problem last week I put a Tpw on I put them in the garage in a cupboard with a heater never had any issues until this one. we had very cold weather so with them being in the cupboard I thought everything was OK but I think the heater is on its way out so when I took a reading with the hydrometer after 7 days it hadn't moved. So I brought them in they where rather cold so I put them by a radiator to warm up I checked them the next day and they where still active so I left the another two day didn't realise they were too close to the radiator and they got a bit too warm around 40c so I moved them to cool down now they have stopped fermenting and still have not moved on the hydrometer the question is have a ruined them or is there anything I can do to reactivate the wash thanks marbaker

Hydrate a fresh lot yeast to the wash temp and pitch, you should be fine then

So mix warm water to yeast then add to wash. How much yeast would you recommend on a 25ltr wash

I recently accidentally pitched at 50c - was quiet for 24 hours and is now going gangbusters!

Still no joy with it i pitched 80g of yeast again started to work for a day then died am I doing something wrong the temperature of the wash was around 32c is that ok

what yeast are you using?
are you aerating the wash?
what is the PH?

I'm using bakers yeast and the hydrometer reading is just under 1000 cheers mark

And I piched the yeast at 28c when added to the wash and the wash is running at around 30c on a heat pad

Was you reading just below 1 as you posted or was it 1.09 as you posted

At just under 1, it may well have finished fermenting

it's a big difference between 1.090 and just under 1.
the SG of tpw is usually around 1.080 and finishes (FG) about 0.990
so which is it?
i keep my bakers yeast washes fermenting at 31C, i have pitched it at 35C without any problem.
PH meters are not essential, but can be useful for solving problems like you're experiencing.

i mentioned aeration.
i have been aerating my wash with a big paint stirrer on my cordless drill before adding the yeast for a while now.
i think the theory is that it adds a lot of oxygen for the yeast to happily work on, before they turn their attention to the sugar without any stress.
when i say aerate, there is a fair old head of bubbles by the time i've finished.
not forgetting to try and not hit the sides of the plastic fermenter, causing scratches, which make it harder to clean and sanitize :shifty:
constant temps, as you know, are the other thing.
i have a 2nd hand fridge with a inkbird + belt heater.

Last November I put on a TPW in my 60 litre fermenter using 12kg's of sugar and the SG came up 1089, now as it has been warm and not too hot the first ferment took about 6 weeks. I found where i started with a PH of 5.7 which is rain water after 3 weeks the PH was 3.5 :o so i added a couple of oyster shells and a bit of bi carb soda to raise the PH. Now with the second ferment it also took about 6 weeks and with a similar SG of 1090 had the same problems on PH. It does seem the oyster shells can't work in such a high sugar content so action is needed to keep the PH up. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Today I stripped 30 litres and got 5 litre to 20% :handgestures-thumbupleft: so that figure is some thing to aim for mate.

Thank you Howard and Bryan much appreciated for the help I took another reading today its sitting on 1.000
When I added more yeast I just stirred it into the wash iv never had one fail before so when you say pich more yeast I just thought add 80g of yeast to 28c water and add it too the wash it started to work for a day then it stopped again I didn't realize you had to really stir it in. So iv wasted the wash then or can I pich more yeast thanks mark

If its at 1000 it might well be done and ready to run. Have you tasted the wash ? Is it sweet or dry ?

If its droped 90 points, stop mucking arround with it, run it and start a new one

Aim for 1.060 -70 starting gravity, Quality over Quantity eh?

maybe have a look at controlling the heat better.
ie the inkbird ITC-108 on fleabay is a pretty cheap set and forget, there's probably others.
