Can tell you that the TPW has a less fume smell than the turbos.
Need to learn how to do cuts.
Anyone with a t500 or even a reflux still do cuts?

Cheers pj

So basically your saying is you get an extra ltr for 5.5 times the cost ok but if that money was spent just on the TPW you would get 14.3 ltrs  3.5 verses 14.3 and no hrs of fun filtering.... I think we have a winner here folks :teasing-tease:

and not to mention the inky smell you get from the turbo while its fermenting...

TPW all the way. Have so far done 4 tpw and have been very happy with the results. I have been using 6kg of sugar cause its easier (dont have to measure or buy 1kg bags) and have been getting decent results. got 2.6 (was on 5kg), 2.9, 3 and 3.2 from them. still learning the cuts but i think i am getting better at it

I agree TPW is the way to go. 2 more batches on the go. The guy at the HBS asked me if I needed yeast the other day and didn't have the heart to tell him I won't be buying them again.

Beside taking out my first 200 ml that's it for my cuts. Last time I tried taking cuts I gave myself a headache sniffing.
I'll give it a go again. I figure once you keep putting you heads and tails back in your next cook they become more concentrated??

yes if you keep doing it over a long period it could become a problem. at first they will just compress better but eventually you will have to much , i've come to the conclusion they it pays to do a faints run every now and the and just ditch the faints from that run

I dont want to rain on anybodys parade but I would like to question your costings.
What is Turbo Clear and Turbo Carbon cost ? $5 or $6 each ?, I fail to see how you got to $38 and $39

Turbo clear and turbo carbon $10-11
turbo yeast $10-12
8kg sugar/dextrose $12-16

turbo costings add up to around mid $30's ...
seems legit to me (having only ever done one turbo wash that came in a "starter pack", so i've never actually bought any individually)

Is there shipping with that?
Also I added the cost of the carbon filter that is recommended with these washes..

Thanks

not sure on exact prices but when I was using all the turbo gear and carbon and using the whisky profile kit I worked out it was costing about $8 a bottle to end product.

Reckon I'm doing it cheaper now!

That sounds right. You were talking liter bottles though?

What's your personal opinion on the profile kit?
Has me curious but not sure to spend the dough
