Don't need to worry about that, the still is always open to air - the expanding gasses can escape - only the low boiling point stuff like alcohol gets knocked down by the condenser - there should be no pressure build up.

as i said before, trying to control the temp. will drive you nuts. i tried for hours & phone calls to bob for help, but with no success.
The temp would rise to high 80c adjust water very sightly with needle valve, temp. would drop to high 60c, this would go on for 3 hours till finished. :angry-banghead:
i hope you have better luck than i did.

Yeah bundy, Im hearing you i was struggling the whole time with it i have emailed him to see if he has any advice but now thats 2 of us having problems I can see where this is heading i am thinking if the condensor was bigger it would have more room to steady the temp as i noticed the condensor was getting quite warm to the end of the run
as you can tell i am no expert but want to perfect my whiskey experience
i plan on doing single batch whiskeys on oak

mate i don't know what to tell you, except that after 3 or 4 runs i got the shits with the still and Bob,at nearly 70 i didn't need the stress, I then went and got Mac to build me a reflux and pot still. never looked back.i know its $200 down the drain and in Bobs pocket but my health and well being came first,

Hey mate,
I am not sure if you have already came across this post but Maheel put up a link to an excellent whisky making book which The Stig made downloadable, very well worth the read for your whisky journey.

There are more books to read in this link as well, The Alaskan Bootleggers Bible has some good tips on making neutral and then recipes to flavour it with things like tinned fruit and such which I found are as good as essences.

I think you will find this myth from the old moonshiners in the American South that would cook with all the grain still in the boiler and every now and then when one would puke toomuch :puke-huge: and it would clog the column when no-one as watching it for hours, then it would build the pressure and BOOM! Blow the shit out of the house and everything sorrounding it. These days everyone is more diligent becauase we have learnt from the old boys mistakes. The most dangerous thing you can do these days is cook with an open flame (as I do) because if your not watching and your cooling water is cut off you will have a nice combustible liquid spilling out working its way to the burner..............
