Starch conversion test

. Browsing one of the major Chinese sites I found and ordered these

Turns out they are an easy and inexpensive method to iodine / starch test a grain mash conversion.

Each unit has a few drops of the necessary iodine for a clean and disposable test.
Bet they did not anticipate our application when they came up with the idea

A few cents per test and reliable

Snip one end, break the other and several drops of iodine fall into your mash sample. More than sufficient to tell you what you need.

bearing in mind that the 'iodine test' cannot tell you if all the starch has been successfully extracted from your grain.
also the iodine test does not know the difference between fermentable and unfermentable sugars.

Refractometer is very easy to use inexpensive tool but only until fermentation starts once alcohol is present they are not accurate. I may be wrong but I think they may have one that works even when ethanol present.
