Hi Guys,

Im gonna bite the bullet and buy an all in one system i think. Mainly for beer but also want to do AG whiskey, problem is the cheaper ones dont have the 50l capacity so i was thinking doing no chill cubes to get a boiler load?

Just after opinions on what you guys have or have used i know the braumeister is top notch but 3.6k is out of my league.

I have a Robo and have only used it once and it seemed to do a good job. I certainly got good conversion, and was reasonable easy to use. The temp gauge is about 3 degrees out on mine so I have to make allowances for that when i am making the wort.

It's a new system in australia, I've got one and it's been really good so far for making beer.

It's between robobrew and grainfather quality wise from what I can tell. Reckon it was about $650 shipped to my door with a wort chiller and hop spider.

Sorry guys im not really up with all this ag stuff but are you talking mash tuns? If so there are a few designs that blokes have made out of eskys on here. I think mac sells an inline "rims" element thingy. Not sure if I'm on the right track but this is what I'm thinking your looking for.

Yea all grain, spefically single vessel step mash (raise lower temp) capable units. All in one like a grainfather..

I got offered a three vessel electric with pumps and elements the other day for around 600 bucks. Deals are out there. Hard to go past a proper 3 vessel system if you are doing beer. Especially if you want to do more than one brew a day. We normallt do at least three between 2 or 3 of us. One brew day every 2 or 3 weeks.

There's meant to be a 50L Robo coming out soon. Give Kegking a ring and see if they have a ETA yet.

You can easily do 2 washes in a day with the Robo brew. It took me about 6 hours to do 2 washes of about 23lts each.

I've got a 20lt Braumeister which I love for beer, I wish I had a 50lt one for whiskey.

When they first came out nothing really compared.
The Grainfather had a temp controller that used to overshoot. They have bought out a better controller now it really would have to be the better option for value for money.

Don't know enough about the Guten to comment.

If there is an all in one that could mash a 70% corn grain bill I'd be on it like a shot!

Still being virginal when it comes it all grain I always wondered about using a plastic drum, like one of those olive oil drums, or a stainless 44 as a cooker. Not sure the strength would remain in the plastic drum is all if you filled it all the way to full. I have had 20 liters of boiled water in one and it seemed strong enough.
If you heated to strike temp, put all the grain in and placed an immersion heater in the top inside some sort of metal tube or mesh sock to keep the grain off and controlled the temp using an stc1000 or the like and a good stirring paddle you could do a big batch in one hit.
If you came from below with the temp, say 60 steady, then 62 steady up to desired temp, you could be sure you wouldn't overshoot mashing temp.
I was going to try something similar with an agave instead of roasting it (like a sous vide) but my studies is taking all my time at present.

coffee addict uses a blue drum with a false bottom for a mash tun. uses a combination of boiled water hot water sytem water and tap water to hit strike temp. From memory I think he said he uses 77kg grain per mash :scared-eek: :D
