Yesterday I tried www.5stardistilling.com.au who had none. Then tried two sellers on Ebay who had none (ads were gone this morning). I then tried a third on Ebay but thought I'd ask about delivery before ordering. Their reply was:

"yes, the delivery time is VERY longer time due to COVID-19 now, it need at least 60-90 days , in fact, all seller in eBay the same now.

Because of many countries have reduced flights. International mail service is very difficult. Our package cannot arrive on time. There may be delays with previous packages, please don't worry. The parcel will arrived, just later than usual."

Thinking I might have to give this a miss for now, then thinking, when 3 months have gone by I'll be kicking myself for not ordering any so I took another look at www.5stardistilling.com.au this morning. They now have it.
Ordered a pack with an ETA of 24 - 49 days & the price was better than any on Ebay.

Might be slightly off topic but while I’m waiting for yeast to arrive, thought I’d better get myself a grain mill. Any that you would recommend?I would be after something that would be able to handle corn as well as other grains. I buy cracked corn for UJ and have noticed that there is no real difference in price between whole and cracked grain (I assume the cracked grain would be easier on the mill) Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers

Les

I do the same. Makes the milling faster. 2 roller driven by a drill works for me

2 roller with a drill here too. If it breaks it was only $50. If I had the $$ I'd get a hammermill from China.

How are you guys going with the roller mills on small unmalted grains? went over to a mates place who has one, even on min size it wouldnt touch feed grade oats or rolled barley, the malted rye wasnt too fantastic to feed in and then still needed to go through my hand grinder. it wasnt rated to do corn so we didnt even try it...
Ended up doing it all by hand....

Thanks for the replies guys. I ordered my yeast when I still had a couple of black hairs on my head. I think I’ll be totally grey or bald before it arrives.

My wife had an old grister for making flour that her parents had which has conical stones in it. It came from France. I was able to open it up to grist grains much more coarse than flour. This photo is when I was gristing some flaked maize. Good for hard grains like corn, wheat and unmalted barley. Smashes malt barley and separates the husk but I can tip it back in. Still playing with it. I notice there is a new grister called a Maltzilla just come out.

Filled my 20L barrel to the rim with Christmas Caramel bourbon w/oats @57.5% today. The white reminds me of oatmeal creampie cookies! It'll be in the barrel until December 2021.

I started milling grains for the next round of Angel yeast bourbon I'm making: Sundae Chocolate bourbon. 70% corn, 20% caramel 60l malt, 5% pale chocolate malt. I plan on leaving it in the barrel until 2022.

No wrong. Angel are a huge operation and produce dozens of different yeasts including a lot sold under different brands. Their most common range is bakers IDY which is in a white and red pack. The stuff we use for liquor is in a silver pack with the red Angel logo and most importantly the
yellow square at about 9 o’clock on the front.
However that white pack bakers IDY is perfect for TFFV.

While I think the one you are looking at, looks the same, it has "Instant Dry Yeast" on the front of the pack:

What you want is this one with "Starter of Liquor-making" on the front:

Lots different "angel yeasts" if you dont get right one it wont convert the grain then ferment.
They make a standard bakers among others..

Pitched yeast today on the first 2 of four ferments, 2 hours later it's rolling!

ETA: This time I didn't add boiling water to the grains to kill the bacteria, I'll compare the bacterial blooms to the last ones where I did.

Beerswimmer did you notice any volume difference when adding boiling water at the start?
