Went from 80 to 70 over 2 half stubbys am calling it.. :handgestures-thumbupleft: taste is promising specially for unmalted. Lots raw grain/grassy and medicinal type flavours. You right about the smell Dan must be lots sulphite in the mix. But cleans up nicely..

Ohh the 2.5l quoted above is mostly above 86abv...

Nice stuff bluc... glad it went well for ya! :handgestures-thumbupleft:
My 2.85ltrs came up at 87% Abv. This stuff is looking mighty consistent.
Thinking ahead to my next experiment i might try something a bit different.
Going to malt some of my barley and try fermenting it "green".
As soon as it needs drying to stop the germination process in the fermenter it will go. Only thing im not sure about will be the rootlets and what flavour they may add good/bad.
Anyhow... it's called an experiment for a reason.
Just got to wait for some empty fermenters.

Rootlets add grassy apparently dan. I have found grassy dissapears with age but adds raw grain flavour. I assume rootlets may be same. Did you keep 2.8l at 86 or total collection? My estimate is 2.5l at 65% in a bottle..better than 1.5 to 1.8l ..

Kept 1 ltr at 92%
I prob cut a lot harder than most. Hate the taste of heads. I prefer to put a bit in the feints jar than get too greedy.
Certainly more product for the effort!

That’s pretty good for a 35l wash. Can you post your address bluc so that all members can come round for a tasting in a few months time? :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

So you’re happy with the yield compared with a full mash?

Yes especially considering it takes zero effort or fancy equipment.. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I'll never do a large mash again. maybe a small one, but large ones are done for me as long as I can keep a supply of the Angel yeast. It's as easy as a sugarhead, but I don't have to pay for the sugar!

I notice that this yeast comes from Hubei, China. Given Hubei's capital is Wuhan, is anyone who purchased any of this yeast, of late, seen any delays in shipping ? The Ebay site says estimated delivery between July 9 & 31st Aug, does that sound about right?
Thanks

There are a number of sellers on www.5stardistilling.com.au . I received a couple of packs in the middle of our lockdown with only about 3 weeks delivery time. That may be from existing stock and there may well be a manufacturing delay now. This stuff as so many are now finding is so versatile.
I have just checked and my last supplier is still quoting 13 to 20 days delivery

I ordered in January or Febuary, right when Wuhan was having it's pandemic. I also ordered in late March when the US was having it. No delays.

I'm running my final spirit run on this batch, smelling great!

Hi folks,
Might be slightly off topic but while I’m waiting for yeast to arrive, thought I’d better get myself a grain mill. Any that you would recommend?I would be after something that would be able to handle corn as well as other grains. I buy cracked corn for UJ and have noticed that there is no real difference in price between whole and cracked grain (I assume the cracked grain would be easier on the mill) Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers

Les

I do the same. Makes the milling faster. 2 roller driven by a drill works for me
