I had a barley and rye ag whiskey earlier and im thinkin exactly the same.. if i did blind tasting im sure you wouldn't pick it..
Just put 20kg of milled unmalted oats in the fermenter with 60ltrs of hot water to sit for a while. Will pitch some angel when it gets back to 30 deg.
Brew room smells very nice atm.

Great to see how this has taken off from my original experiments and trials last year.

Seems like most are liking the process.

I am not saying it is the only was ( I still do some with Hi Temp liquid enzymes) but is is another way.

Thanks for getting the ball rolling mate!
Starting to get quite a few different spirits now using this stuff and they all taste great.
Certainly cut down on the time spent doing mashes compared to the traditional way. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

So I have a 25kg bag of Amber malt barley. Have a 100l boiler and wanting to Do a wash with the angel. I will milk it so what are people thinking as far as amount of water to add to the 25kg? Am thinking 100 litres and be left with about 80 to run through the bubbler

Possibly. I have a 100l esky and some nice M1 yeast but haven’t done a straight mash before so was thinking if I just put the angel yeast in and the Taste isn’t much different then it’s a hell of a lot easier

Yeah, once you get a packet in the mail you just about need to order another straight up so it arrives before you run out. :laughing-rolling:

My oat wash finished so i syphoned off all the wash down to the grainbed, which was only about 20 odd liters. As oats are so light in weight 20kgs in an 80ltr wash takes up a lot of room.
I ended up using my esky and false bottom to drain the rest out.
Got around 60ltrs of wash out without sqeezing and then did a sparge to get the rest out hopefully, which took my total to 85ltrs.
As oats have a lot of husk i was really hoping to flush out any trapped wash which sometimes gets left behind.

Be interested to hear volume of final spirit after sparging. Have heard couple people suggest it but yet to hear any results :handgestures-thumbupleft:

You should be fine, mine came a week or two before the earliest date in their estimation.

I've been reading through this whole thread and the one on the other forum where I found a direct link so bought 2 off 500g bricks, now with my last 2 attempts at corn this yeast will be my goto stuff and once I do a small trial or 2 summer should be here and I'll finally get to use that 200 litre olive drum I cleaned every year but never got around to using it.

I figure with a 200 litre ferment 4 strip runs in my 4" pot still will give me more than enough to do a spirit run in the pot which should bring the whole flavour.

Cheers Bryan

Cool mate, now I was thinking of the George Washington recipe for the first one so we will have to :violence-smack: heads together :laughing-rolling: and come up with the amount of grain to suit the 200 litre ferment.

I reckon I will need to grab a barrel or 3 so time to make a few dozen dragonflies for the funds. Just a couple of knives and a few spots with the mig and $25 for 10 minutes work :laughing-rolling:

Cheers Bryan
