15 t0 20 years ago we were camping at the Murrandindi reserve, at the same time as a Melbourne brewing club, and i was fascinated at there activities making what they called a Steinbier.
The art of making a traditional beer that dated back hundreds of years as metal brewing pots were only available to the wealthy. So they cooked there mashes in wooden tubs and heating it by plunging red hot stones into the mash. I think this method could also be used to make an interesting spirit.
I would like to have a go at this technique when i have a lot more spare time, and a fair bit of research and thought.
Google Steinbier, makes interesting reading.
