Feints run, heads & tails...to keep or not to keep?

Postby iOnaBender » Sat Jul 31, 2021 12:12 pm

Hi AD's

I have read contradicting information on keeping or tossing heads & tails from a full feints run :angry-banghead: What is the best move for continued quality product? Toss all heads & tails from a full feints run, keep all heads & tails for next feints run or it's ok to keep heads & tails of an all feints run once only?

I'm interested to hear what is "best practice"

Cheers

Personally I toss heads and tails from a feint run. If you keep, your yields will just get poorer and poorer. Just my two cents.

No such thing as best practice here Bender, as everyone does it differently.

Personally I only ever do a feints run once and keep the left overs from that for sacrificial runs and cleaning.

Other throw last run feints in the next mash run and so only ever do spirit runs.

I think some runs benefit from funky flavours. Try it and see what you like mate and what works for you

Heads and feints Makes great bbq starters.
I now soak small pieces of coal (1" squared) in a jar, then when im doing a cookup, i bury a piece in the charcoal and light it up. Dont need fire starters anymore either.
Tails i always recycle through their respective parents. Cfw, rum or gins.

I like to toss the first 1L of heads (BBQ cleaner) and then throw the next 3L in the next run, and i add tails to next run stripped out to 30%, this is for brown spirits. This helps boost the hearts cut and speed up to 3.5l an hour in hearts

Im not a fan of feints runs on their own, rather just get another clean ferment going.
