Flow of alcohol from still

Postby Tinepole » Tue Feb 21, 2012 11:43 am

Hi all. I have just completed my first distil. My alcohol level was 60% not great but hey ok for me for now. Q1 can I pour that back in and recycle it to increase the alcohol level? Q2 the flow out of the still was pretty fast is that normal or is it running to hot? Q3 when I put what's left from my still back into my fermenters it was pretty warm around 50 deg. Should I wait till it gets to around 25 deg? That's it. For now!

I have a mcstill pot with two 2200 w elements.

if you re-distill anything water it back to 40% or less

how many watts you running ? all 4400 or only 2200 when collecting ? i only use 2200 when collecting (and heating up most of the time)
did you measure the collection rate ?

how much backset did you put back into the fermenter ? you will have to wait 20 25->30 deg C before adding yeast, you can melt sugar etc at a high temp but.

Why do you want the alc level to be higher than 60%?
