I gotta say there is a lot of more simple designs out there that will perform as good as the ones above, being a first build dont over complicate things, you will eventually build another anyway :laughing-rolling:

Mine is a double reducer design ;-)

So you and your short column proves all the scientific data and research wrong?

I'd love to see Harry chime in on this, but I'll guess he wont because the variables arent worth mentioning unless you actually understand them :laughing-rolling:

Cheers, knob, scrawny nuts or anything else you think worthy :handgestures-thumbdown:

McStill,

Could this design be adapted to be a 3"? if so, how high should the cloumn be? and what size should the reduced section be?

also, please explain how the "cup" is supported?

Cheers

Yes it works fine in 3"

Column lengths has already been discussed, I advised 1300mm to 1500mm of packing.

Solder the cup to the bottom of your coil, it's only there to stop reflux falling directly back down the column by directing it into the collection area.

The collection area should hold 80 to 100ml of fluid in a 3"

Thanks, I wasn't sure, due to being a different design that the column length may of varied. Because you mention packed length, I'll assume that's without the condensor which would make the total height in the region of 1600mm - 1800mm.

I got the gist of why the cup was there.

If it's built as a 3" diameter column,, the reduced section pipe diameter should be ???

Cheers
