I have a heap of them
They were known as the half gallon jar. Used mainly for take home draught beer in the old days.

Still a few knocking around over here

Nice Teddy, made me think n check..

Yup same as a Darwin stubby here in oz, not so cheap anymore, a bit more into the collectable region now, but would have been a good option a decade or two back $$ wise depending on what end of the country your at

if you can source some Vacola jars, number 65 is meant to be 2L capacity.

Kmart also have some 2.2 L glass jars with the clip lid that are pretty reasonable. Might be worth a look. The Reject Shop might be worth a try too.

I may have gone a little crazy at k-mart yesterday.... Got the 5.6L jars for $10 as they had an old shelf label still up.

Btw can you use cork for ageing, or best to use paper towel and rubber band like BigRig suggested? will have to filter with coffee filters in either case

these jars were pretty cheap $4.50ea so might not be a solid piece of cork. Seems to be a little flakey with bits or cork coming away.

kmart jars have been discussed before i think.
the cork is agglomerate (cork/glue) - not reccomended.
the 5.6l jar lid has got a polyethylene seal(?).

as for using paper towel & rubber bands, i think it depends on your storage temps.
normally i would agree with big-rig, and during the cooler months it's ok.
but i had a some interesting losses when i aired some gin for 36hrs with paper towel recently, while we were having a run of very dry 40C days.
either that, or i have some very greedy angels in my shed
