Stripping in a heat wave ...

Postby RT2Ts » Wed Dec 02, 2020 7:26 am

Did a strip run yesterday during a heat wave ....hmmm lesson learnt I think ???
I'm very much a newbie but don't think pumping hot water (easy 50+ degrees half way through the run) helps condense much at all ? :-B
100ltr plastic drum, submersible pump...5star 2" pots still. 50lt boiler.

Sorry but yea your gonna need cooler water than that :laughing-rolling:
Freeze some 2lt milk bottles full of water and chuck them in your drum

Don’t think 100L drum will cut it even with frozen bottles in it. I was using a 220L drum in Vic on mild days and at the end of the run the water temp was too hot to efficiently cool anything.

I upgraded to a 1000L drum plus the 220L which is much better.

Think you should consider larger drums. The 220L olive barrels are quite cheap or you may be able to pick up an IBC at a reasonable rate if you have the space

My 1000 litre rainwater tank started at 24 degrees so warmer weather will mean some way to cool the water down. Best option I have for summer is to run the water from the tank through the still then on to the lawn, and replenishing the tank water from the tap. this avoids pressure changes due to others using water in the house, also if the water temp drops enough I can recycle the water to the tank instead of the lawn until it starts to heat up.

Some handy information here thanks chaps.
I've recently moved from a house with a pool and this stuff was never an issue then obviously.
About to build again (no pool this time)... maybe I should look into something connected up with the rainwater tank? Probably a good idea ?

Simple solution just bury some ag pipe atleast 12"'s under ground but more in a hotter climate and the water will stay at 22C which is the ground temp. Now for the volume of water one simply needs a simple calc as to diameter and flow.

I have read before by putting pipes in a bore hole will give that 22C temp and on a hot day by running pipes from the hole to under the house does provide nice cooling.

Now if guy's are using small amounts of water for cooling then a radiator needs to be put in the mix pure and simple. One can be easily fashioned but if needed I can do a tutorial on setting it all up but my wish list for a gopro is going unheard :angry-banghead:

But if cooling water during run does need a solution then a east fix needs to be sorted

Cheers
