Hi AD,

I have searched the site for "how to use a parrot" and other vairiations, searches only seem to come up with mentions of parrots in threads. How do you correctly use a parrot?
Do you have it attached from the get go and dump foreshots through it until you have collected your fores and then close for the rest of the run?
Do you attach parrot after foreshots collection?
I would like the finer points on how to utilise the parrot correctly. I have read a lot about smearing, so wondering how you avoid smearing between the main cuts?

Be gentle, just after a heads up! No pun intended.........

You are getting the FSD parrot with the new still ?

Connect it at the beginning of the run. It has a ball valve so you can bypass the parrot and collect the fores from the drain. Once you are happy with your fores collection, close the valve and start collecting using the parrot with your alcometer. When u start transitioning between the fractions (heads, hearts, tails etc) you can use the drain to dump the alcohol in the parrot. The parrot holds about 200mls.

Yes BigRig, comes with the still.
I sort of had in my mind that it is on from the start and you use the dump valve, but then the smearing came into the equation. It got me wondering how to avoid it with the dumped product and the oncoming product mixing in the parrot and causing smearing.

To what the Stig said.

I dump after each cut mate, I have the five star but must have a bigger alcometer than big rig, as I find the parrot holds approx 150 ml. Just be super careful letting the alcometer go, I have smashed 1 dropping it into the parrot rathe4 than placing it each time after the cutis made. Some use a small amount of scrubbie to cushion the bottom of the parrot.

I have had the thought with using scrubbie at the bottom of parrots as another place to smear..

Then I came up with the idea of a thin wire ss spring just under the diameter of the bulb at the bottom, Ill let you use your imagination, dont have a parrot, cant demo...

Splitting hairs a bit possibly but obviously my brain had nothing better to do at the time... :teasing-tease:

I just roll up a very small amount of copper mesh and drop into the parrot

Thanks for the feedback guys

I've taken everything on board, I'll give it a go and see what I can do!

Might need Andrew to keep an express postage bubble bag ready to go if I drop it from a great height, "murphy's law" of course it will happen out of business hours x_x
