SS v Copper boiler?

Postby CJCM45 » Thu Jul 22, 2021 5:09 pm

Hi All, as a new member, not sure which section to ask this ❓
In relation to eliminating/improving flavours, reducing sulphers and other nasties/etc...does it control better with a copper tub or SS tub? And at what stage of a cook are these impurities created, vapour stage? Temp range?
Appreciate feedback, as I'm planning my next build.
Cheers Chris

Hi Chris,

SS boiler is fine as long as you have copper bubble plates/packing in the vapour path.

Drop into the welcome section and introduce yourself. Let AD members know a little bit more about your good self. What you want to make.and get out of your distilling journey/hobby, they'll be more than happy.to guide you. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Cheers

Welcome CJ
You will need some copper in the vapour path to trap the sulphur. I am not sure when it is created but I know with no copper you will end up with smelly product, even if it is being distilled for the third time. So it definitely comes across when doing your spirit run.
Strip runs tend not to be important as it is the slow spirit run where you need the copper

Copper in the path on a strip for suphites/sulphides (whichever it is)
Copper boiler for spirit for maillard & similar reactions
Copper boiler for more efficient direct flame heating

So im told
