Reflux Coil

Morning all,

I have been looking at different Ideas to adapt my still head to enable me to reflux. As you would all know, a common component between many designs (Boka/CCVM/VM) is a coil reflux condenser. I have read many threads and guides on winding coils.

I then stumbled across this guy in QLD on ebay selling double helixes for a reasonable price. This is considering a roll of 6mm (1/4") annealed copper is not cheap. Cheapest AUS supplier I have found is $55 for 5m delivered. On the other hand, these coils are $68 delivered, I think this is pretty good.

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-Double-Helix-Reflux-Coil-Still-Boka-Condenser-without-end-cap/134123061860

Anyone have any thoughts?

While I'm here, I may as well also ask. For a modular VM setup. Would the 5Star SS 1/2 "BSP gate valve be too restrictive. The plan would be to grab 2 of the 1/2"BSP - 2" ferrule, one for either side, then I can clamp it straight in.

Thinking I could take my 5Star pot, Replace the 1st elbow with a Tee > drop in the horizontal SS Gate with 2" triclamps > elbow off to the PC. I know Ill also need to extend the column and get a small riser to house the coil above the tee. This seems like a decent way to transition to a reflux column.

I could go a similar route without the valve and use it as a CCVM? I think I prefer the idea of a more methodical approach of a valve, rather than raising the coil an imprecise amount.

Thanks all.

As to the above coil, I actually enquired with Andrew first to see if he was able to sell me the RC from his boka head as an option. Unfortunately for me, they come as the entire set and breaking up isnt an option.

Just to clarify , I actually told Yarns to post asking if any members had or are willing to make a coil and I have no issue with the link.
Cheers

I would also be open to this if anyone has the means or an old one around. Maybe I should make a post in the want to buy as well...

Hi Yarns.
I built a 2inch Boka not long ago and rolled a couple of coils. I have moved on to bigger and better things , so your welcome to the spare one if you want it.

Cheers Steve

Spare one just gathering dust.
Happy if someone can get some use out of it.

If anyone is looking for small gauge copper for a coil out side of a scrap yard, the small stuff frequently comes up on marketplace as air conditioning coil - leftovers from install kits
