I have read that oyster shells can be used to control the PH level in a wash to prevent a 'stalled wash'.

Would egg shells do the same job?

Cheers,

They do

I used them for a bit but they are a bit of a pain compared to oyster shells

Thanks for the reply.
Can't seem to find any oyster shells except for shell grit for birds.
We eat heaps of eggs, so I thought....
Cheers,

i just buy some oyster to eat boil them for awhile and then let them dry , they will last alot longer than egg shells and easier to deal with
not my idea there should be a bit of info on here or homedistiller

nothing wrong with shell grit for birds.
i bought a 5kg bag from City Farmers for $20.99 about 18 months ago.
i still have about 2.5kg left.
it looks clean, but i boiled it to be sure, then stored it for use later.
i use a cupful in rum washes, sometimes 1/4 is dissolved, sometimes nothing.
whatever is left is rinsed, dried and put back in the stock.

I'm in the industrial water treatment and water recycling game, we just use Dense Soda Ash or Calcium Carbonate (Which is in Oyster & Egg shells.) to correct pH. I'm only new the to distilling area so someone can shout me down if it isn't good adding those two products to a wash.
