Cleaning keg after rum run

Postby rustylevers » Mon Jan 01, 2024 5:44 pm

Hey everyone, I'm using a 50l beer keg with a gas burner and I've just completed my first stripping run of SBB's all molasses rum but it's left a bit of burnt molasses stuff on the bottom of the keg. My next run will be a BWKO spirit run, I was wondering if this residue will come across in the run. What do people use to clean kegs that haven't been modified?

Use citric acid and water and let it sit for a little bit.

I don't normally clean my stuff I just rinse it out and let the fores do there thing at the start to clean it. but after a rum the flavour does carry through for a bit first.

Thanks everyone, I ended up just running it, might have stripped some rum flavour out in the heads but the hearts came out fine. I'll only have to deal with it until I modify my keg and can get my arm inside to scrub it.

Rusty a 4" fill port beside the riser ontop of the keg does let you get your arm in to give it a good scrub :handgestures-thumbupleft: unless you have arms like a baboon :laughing-rolling: and it could be the reason Wellsy bought a milk can boiler as those baboon arms would get stuck in a 4" fill port. :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

Make sure its unscented napisan. Also experienced similar and just a hot / near boiling water soak and scrub worked fairly well, I'm assuming the heads also cleaned it up a little as well.
