Well citric acid or this 551 is only the first step and after we get that sort of clean a nicely worn 3M pad or steel wool will get that new copper look and all the nasties off due to the cleaning :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I just rinse and use from there haha - think I used a scourer one time before I learned about 551.

Didn't clean all 4 this time - I usually throw them through the dishwasher with all the tower pieces, and use 551 before building the tower so they are clean for use. This time I just had the 551 still available to demonstrate the difference for those curious.

I recently picked up.some second hand bubble plates. They were black and blue all over.
Soaked them for 48hrs in Citric Acid, but they didn't clean up that well.

I resorted to using steel wool to scrub, but it was taking ages, with little results.

I saw this thread and did a 551 mix, after dismantling the plates.
Soaked for an hour, still hard to scrub off blue stuff.
I then put them into a vinegar/salt bath for an hour or two.

After this it made it easier for the steel wool to remove most discolouration.

It was tricky trying to scrub inside the caps, but I figured that the sac run will sort em out.
Chucked them all in the oven at 170° for 15mins, after a few rinses. When I took them out I noticed blue dust on the aluminium foil. So I grapped a steel spoon and tapped the caps and a stack of blue stuff, that I could barely scrub, just fell out.

Plates came up pretty good in the end. Sac run should make em right.

Come up good. Suggest using something like 551 a lot more regularly than the "never" the previous owner appears to have!

Probably wondered why all their booze smelled like rotten eggs...

I'll keep on top off them from now on.
The plates haven't been used for a long time.
