Ferment temps

Postby markus » Mon Aug 27, 2012 11:39 am

What is the ideal temperature for a wash to be while fermenting...
From what I have read different types/strains of yeast it will vary.
The more I research the more it does my head in :angry-banghead:
One place I read says 15 to 22 degrees another website has between 25 and 32 degrees and
Somewhere else will say between 21 and 28

Ive got a grain/sugar wash with lowans yeast bubbling away and it's sitting at 18.5 degrees.
Is this too low?
I'm impatient and don't really want to wait weeks till it's finished if it's too cold.

What temps work well for you with what yeast???

Sorry, I'm sure this has been answered before a million times,
Or if someone can point me in the right direction.

I try to keep a constant 24- 26 degrees in winter, summer time i just leave it as is,been using distillers yeast & bakers yeast for rum. :handgestures-thumbupleft:
I think that the distillers yeast is more tollerant to higher temps which suits WA summers.

I started off high around 30 degrees Celsius when I was getting started in this hobby but I'm running everything at 27 degrees.

It seems to be a bit slower / controlled and not so crazy. I am using 6kg of sugar and 90 grams of Lowans in 25L and I'm getting to 990 or just above with no dramas.

Cheers
