From everything I read early in my journey I got the impression that spuds were a bit difficult to ferment, and that yields were way down compared to a typical sugar wash.

IIRC the spud was used as a base for vodka mash in countries where other ingredients were expensive or unavailable, I'm pretty sure there is some info over at HD but it might take a bit of finding.

Cheers.

a few threads an artisan, potatoes are low in sugar and fermenting them is a mess (as you can imagine).

Bloody hard work for little result.
