Hi in the interests of not wasting anything.....what are the best uses for collected foreshots (eg window cleaner, nail polish remover)?

I've had a problem with condensation in 5l plastic fuel containers i use for a mower and whipper snipper, resulting in water droplets in the carbs.
Foreshots at 95 mixed into the fuel absorbs the water and thus no more problems.
Also use it in the boat tank.
I have a mate that i give it to that suffers from sweaty feet, and he uses it diluted after having a shower and reckons it works better than any of the dry powders that the doc said to try.
Apart from that i use it for a fuel when smoking fish.
Anything you use metho for you can use high pecent alcohol.

Hey BuxtonBob fantastic list and thanks lots...
Re "Anything you use metho for you can use high pecent alcohol" (sic) is an airstill's foreshots (at around 60-65% ABV, I think) good enough?

Can I ask where you got your burner? Is it one of those small camping ones? I go bush and have been thinking about a alcohol burner, I saw one in a camping store but it was $70.00 :o

I seen a post on HD somewhere about making one from a coke tin, it was a fuckin awesome looking thing that would only take 5 mins to make.

Will have a look n see if I can find it, unless someone knows where it is.

Cheers.

I use fores to sterilise all my distilling gear: fermenters, spoons, pots, etc.

I did some work in a tissue culture lab once upon a time and we used 70% metho to sterilise all of our tools. If it works there it will work here, I figured.

I just use it at 95%. Never had any problems. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

We only watered the metho down to 70% in the lab to reduce evaporation.

Interestingly 70% is a more effective / quicker steriliser than 95%

Something to do with cell structure or some such

Cheers

As far as I understood, it wasn't so much that 70% was more effective than 95%; rather, anything over 70% was effective, so to increase the amount of time that the meths spent on the tools we watered it down to 70% to reduce evaporation.

It was an effective cheap-arse tool steriliser. We couldn't use bleach because we cut up the stuff to be cultured on galvanised benches. Bleach will strip the pants off a gal bench.

It's very satisfying to use your fores to sterilise your gear -- a byproduct of a previous distillation reused to prepare for the next distillation. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I use heads from bourbon spirit runs to fill my spirit lamp and my steriliser bottle on my flowbench at home when doing mycology work. Heads are usually around 80% and fill the house with the booze smell when the hepa bench is going.
