Shortest Settling Time?

Postby Johnboy1234 » Thu Aug 18, 2011 8:38 pm

Drank my last TPW batch too quick and now I have to wait 2 days for the next lot to settle. I have the fermenter outside in 3C temperature, would it be OK to run it thru the still after 26 hrs instead of my usual 48? Whats the worst that can happen?

you could have sped it a little more by racking to another vessel 1st (not much but a little time, but i am still thinking days not hours)

you may notice no diff, only you are going to able to know what it tastes like in the final product .

get another fermenter going ASAP to help speed it all up with stocks

Its in the still now, about 20 mins away from the 1st drips. It looked fine, I will let you know if it still tastes as good in a few hours.

What do you use to get quick settling.

I just stick outside where it is really cold 3C. Only did 25 hrs outside this time, and I just had a taste of the 2nd 100mls and its yummy. I dunno what the advantage is of letting it settle for longer?

No i don't reuse anything I just stick the TPW recipe in my 25L fermenter and wait till it gets to 990 then I usually sit it outside in the cold for 2 days then syphon it out straight into the still. I leave about an inch and a half of crap in the bottom. I just tip that out and thoroughly wash the fermenter, and then start again.

UPDATE:
NAAAA it don't taste as good if you rush the settling process, it definitely needs carbon filtering, then it's great!

Try pouring crap at bottom into a 3 l bottle and see how quickly it settles when put in the fridge or reuse in a second ferment .
