Let it breath

Postby lyonsy » Sun Nov 20, 2011 8:41 am

As I mentioned earlier I was impressed with my 2nd run achieving ABV 95%.
I made 13 250ml cuts, after 19 hours breathing I re checked the ABV which is now 93.5%.
The jars were covered with good quality paper towel that breaths well and secured with elastic bands.
Up till now everybody who has talked about this process of breathing has not mentioned whether or not the ABV will drop, does this sound correct?
Also, does that mean that if I allow it to breath longer it will drop even further?

G'day Lyonsy,

It shouldn't drop that much overnight. This might be a case of a temperature difference between the two measurements. The hotter the liquid the higher the alcohol reading. Checks should be done at 20 degrees liquid temp, there is a calculator around for adjusting ABV for different temperatures.

Cheers, Heffers
