Hi I'm new Here!

Postby dave_distills81 » Sat Dec 06, 2025 10:14 am

Howdy all, this is my first post. I'm a novice, I've been distilling for two years but so far only with an air still pro which makes things pretty idiot proof and also on a super-micro scale. The one good thing about starting out this slow and small, is it's given me time to tinker with washes. Different yeasts, different gravities, different ingredients etc. I've also experimented with flavouring neutral spirits using wood staves, making liquors, and gin, of course.

Anyway, I'm finally joining the community here after reading many different discussions and taking various pieces of advice. I want to buy a PD reflux column but not their boiler. I want a digiboil boiler instead, as it has temperature control and accessories such as a mash insert basket. I want to add some attachments to the still (pot still lid, alembic dome, sight glass or bubble plates).

I like making gin for my wife (who am I kidding, for me too :D ), and flavoured whiskeys. I really want to make real whiskey next.

Look forward to seeing you in the forum!!

Dave

Welcome Dave.
Ditch the PD and buy yourself a 5 Star Boka , better quality and a more modular setup

Welcome Dave.

I can only echo what Stig and Wellsy said.

Go straight for a 5 Star boka and, if you have the inclination and means, the pot head option too. It's an awesome still for the money and will last you a lifetime. I have one along with a 4" Neutraliser and I still use the boka for smaller runs. It the Boka produces exceptional quality neutral and the pot head will allow you to do stripping runs and larger flavoured runs than the air still will allow you to.

Cheers,
Prof. Green.

Welcome Down The Rabbit Hole!
My wife's favorite - actually her EXCLUSIVE - gin is Bombay Sapphire.
Years ago I was on now-defunct Artisan Distillers and other forums and saw the "formula" for Stubby's Gin.
It's still on my LENGTHY T0-Do List!
It's now on most forums as a Tried & True. Even if you want to play with the botanicals, you might learn from the process.

Hi Dave
Welcome to the asylum!
I have a 2" FSD boka and pot.
It is modular, cost-effective and produces an excellent product (albeit slowly)

You can read all about it here.
