Been used for centuries because it swells when wetted and doesn't make you sick
Great for caulking
Great for all threaded and some compression fittings
Way superior to poly tetra flouro ethylene tape when dealing with water fitting joins, hot and cold.
Best of all No Plastic
I have no experience of using it with alcohol
